Safe & Sound – heavy weather tactics for racers and cruisers

Vancouver Boat Show
6:15 PM - WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2017
Room 2

Seminar Details

When the barometer drops and serious weather is forecast the distance between the normally disparate groups of 'racers' and 'cruisers' is at its smallest with cruisers perhaps being in the favoured position of being somewhat better prepared- and with more equipment on board to problem solve with. However, having the equipment on board and actually knowing how to use it are two completely different things- I hope in this lecture to share my experience of heavy weather gained over 250,000Nm and two racing circumnavigations in an attempt to demonstrate new technologies, reveal old practices and clear up common misconceptions- all with the aim of making sailors safer when the wind rips 45kts....
